Massive anti-India protests erupt in southern Kashmir
Srinagar, Indian-administered Kashmir - Massive anti-India protests have erupted in southern parts of Indian-administered Kashmir following the killing of at least 12 rebels.
Police said on Sunday the rebels were killed in three separate gun battles in the villages of Dialgam, Dragad and Kachdora.
Swayam Prakash Pani, Kashmir police chief, told Al Jazeera that eight fighters were killed in two gun battles in Dialgam and Dragad. Five more were killed in Kachdora during a standoff that lasted until the evening.
"Encounter concluded," Shesh Paul Vaid, state police chief, said in a post on Twitter, adding that three soldiers were also killed, as well as four civilians.
"Unfortunate that the stone pelting around encounter site cost four civilian deaths," he said.
