Animal Characteristics
Identification:The bee-eater has a slim body and elongated central tail feathers. They are brightly colored and have long, decurved bills.
Habitat:Tropical regions
Diet:Carnivore: insects, especially from the bee and wasp family
Reproduction:Bee-eaters lay around 2-8 eggs per clutch. Incubation last about 22 days, and the rearing period is four weeks.
Social Structure:Some species nest colonially. All bee-eaters nest in holes dug out of river banks. They are very social animals and can be seen perched together on exposed branches or rooftops.
Behavior:Some species fly and swoop about on moonlight nights, chirping to one another.

Interesting Facts:The bigger species travel in large flocks, sometimes of 300 birds.
