Legendary rocker Tom Petty is clinging to life after suffering cardiac arrest, according to multiple media outlets.
A chaplain was sent to the 66-year-old singer’s hospital room and that he was not expected to live through the day but was clinging to life, TMZ reported.
News outlets initially reported that the singer had died. CBS had tweeted that Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Petty’s death. The LAPD later said it has no information on Mr. Petty. CBS amended its story and citing TMZ, reports that Mr. Petty is “clinging to life.”
Los Angeles coroner’s officials said they have not received a report of Mr. Petty’s death.
He was rushed to the hospital in Santa Monica, California, Sunday night after he was found unconscious and not breathing, TMZ reported Monday.
The singer had suffered a cardiac arrest in his Malibu home before emergency personnel arrived and took him to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, law enforcement sources told TMZ.
